Bhandaripokhari: From a Special Operations Group (SOG) jawan to an inspector-in-charge, the journey has been full of challenges for Amit Kumar Biswal who is currently working at Bhandaripokhari police station in Bhadrak district.

A believer in simple living, his amicable behaviour endears him to whoever comes in contact with him, be it for official and non-official purpose.

Born to Abani Charan Biswal and Geetarani Biswal at Nachhimpur village in Balasore district, Amit says his parents are a big source of his inspiration. His father has recently taken retirement as additional superintendent of police in Sundargarh.

The kind of picture imprinted on people’s mind about police can only be changed if a policeman works with the sole intention of providing service and justice to all, including those belonging to the lower strata of society, he observes.

His gets up early in the morning and goes out for a walk. Before 9 am, he finishes his daily chores and goes to work. His wife Sandeepta, a house maker, plays a vital role in making his work as enjoyable as possible. He married her July 8, 2007.  Her cooperation encourages him in every phase of his life, he admits. He loves home food, egg being his most favourite.

His kind of job hardly gives him any scope to give some time for his family members, particularly to his two sons Saiyov and Ariyov. But, he has no regret. When a common man returns with justice from the police station, it makes him feel good and offsets any remorse that he is not able to devote time to family.

He gives a patient ear to anyone who comes to his office seeking justice. He gets associated with people to understand their problems better. However, he agrees to the fact that crime is increasing and consequently the job of a policeman is also becoming challenging, giving him little rest.

Recollecting his struggling days, he narrates that after graduation, he had appeared for two-three interviews. He was selected for the police department on August 1, 1999, and had his training at Mayurbhanj. Later he underwent Greyhounds Force training at Hyderabad and served as an SOG jawan between 2006 and 2009. During his combing operations in jungles, he would often fall sick. But, that had never ever diverted his aim of fighting out crime and criminals.

During his service period as an IIC at Rasogovindapur, he solved a case of recovering a decapitated body from British era airstrip. He was also appreciated after he successfully cracked the murder case of a retired principal when he was at Baripada.

“When I look back, those memorable successes give me satisfaction,” he adds.
