Berhampur: Kanha, a six-year-old boy from Baghua village under Jagannath Prasad block in Ganjam district who is suffering from a rare genetic skin disorder called werewolf syndrome, is fit to be released from MKCG Medical College and Hospital here after a successful first phase of operation on him.
“Kanha is fit and fine after undergoing one-and-half-month-long treatment,” said assistant professor Biswajit Mishra.
Kanha, who is suffering from excessive hair growth and flab of flesh on his face, was admitted at MKCG Medical College and Hospital July 18 following wide media coverage. A 12-member team of doctors, including the Head of the Department (HOD) of Plastic Surgery Prof Raju Das, conducted the first phase recuperative surgery of the boy for about five-hour.
Kanha was born to Mamata and Ramachandra Naik, a poor couple.
A vehicle under Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram will take him to his village. The next phase of treatment will commence after three months, it was learnt.
Kanha will be enrolled in Class I when he returns home, family sources said.
