Angul: An elderly woman was mowed down by a truck at Bimalbeda on NH-55 under Jarpada police station in Angul district Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Mandei Nayak (73), wife of Chandra Nayak.
According to reports, the woman died on the spot after being run over by a speeding truck which was heading towards Sambalpur from Angul.
Following the mishap, irate locals staged a road blockade on the national highway demanding compensation for the kin of the deceased.
Police reached the spot, pacified the mob and seized the truck.
