Bhadrak: As many as 18 cobra hatchlings were rescued from the premises of Saheed Memorial Junior College at Saheed Nagar under Dhamnagar block in Bhadrak district.
According to sources, students of the college spotted the movement of snake hatchlings in a crack developed on the wall of an old building Wednesday. Being scared, they informed Bhadrak district snake helpline.
Sheikh Mirza, a local snake rescuer reached the college and rescued as many as 18 cobra hatchlings digging up the crack on the concrete wall.
Later, the reptiles were handed over to forest officials.
Earlier, as many as 15 cobra hatchings, one female adult cobra and four Russell’s viper snakes have been found from a house in Kantabania village under Dhamnagar block June 25 this year.
Similarly, more than 140 poisonous snakes had been rescued from different houses spreading panic in the area in June.
“Every day snakes are being rescued from newer areas. The snakes are generally found in soggy and moist areas like under the floor of mud houses or on wet cracks and clevises of wet walls and thatched roofs”, said Mirza.
