Malkangiri: Police Saturday arrested seven persons on the charge of raping a married woman after the survivor tried to commit suicide the previous night.
The accused gangraped the survivor and also tortured her. She lodged a complaint with the police a few months back about the gangrape but the latter did not take note of her complaint.
She alleged that eight to nine youths were raping her for the last four months and also torturing her. The survivor while lodging the complaint had warned of committing suicide if she failed to get justice from the police.
Police went on buying time but woke up and arrested the accused after the survivor slashed her wrist and tried to commit suicide late Friday night. She was rescued in a critical condition and admitted to the district headquarters hospital.
The accused were medically examined and produced in a court, said SP Jagmohan Meena.
