Phulnakhara, March 14: A speeding vehicle ran over four persons out on a morning walk near Phulnakhara Square on the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar national highway early Saturday morning, killing a 35-year-old woman on the spot and grievously injuring three others.
The deceased woman was identified as Babina Mohanty of Puruna Kacharamal village under Sadar police limits. The injured were identified as Mamata Mohanty (32), Sonali Patnaik (27) and Pragnya Mohanty (18) of the same village. The three are undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital.
The speeding driver fled the spot in his vehicle. Sadar inspector in-charge Devdutta Kar rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. The incident sparked tension in the area, with angry locals briefly holding up traffic on the highway demanding the driver’s arrest. Police sent the deceased’s body to SCB for post-mortem and registered a case.
