Khaira: Police unraveled the mystery surrounding the death of a Class-V student of Prakruti Vidya Mandira at Gadapokhari under Khaira police limits in Balasore district Thursday.
Police investigation revealed that the student Badal Das had died after he was beaten up by a teacher. The accused teacher was arrested.
The body of the student was found from a quarry near his school a few days ago. Ramesh Das and Sasmita Das, the parents of the student, had lodged a complaint alleging their son was murdered.
Khaira police had registered a case and started an investigation into the matter. The post-mortem report indicated that the student was strangulated.
As police intensified the probe, the accused teacher Rabindra Nath Rout (64) went into hiding. Police came to know that Rabindra had called Badal to his room September 27 and had severely beaten him up, leaving him dead on the spot. When he was being beaten, two Class-IX students Rudranarayan Khuntia and Lalmohan Majhi had heard the screams of Badal.
Later, the teacher had managed to dump the body of the student in a quarry, a few yards away from the school.
Rudranarayan said he had heard Badal screaming from the school’s office room.
Police tracked the mobile phone of the teacher and traced him in Angul where he was arrested, said Khaira police station IIC Lopamundra Nayak and sub-divisional police officer Sudam Charan Rout.
However, teacher denied the charges. He claimed that the owner of the school has tried to implicate him in the case.
Meanwhile, the villagers have demanded a Crime Branch probe into the case.
