Bhubaneswar, March 16: The state government has tightened security arrangements at sensitive places and important institutions in the state that are vulnerable to attacks by terrorists in view of the warning by the Intelligence Bureau of the possibility of such attacks.
“Based on the overall threat perception, as well as general and specific intelligence inputs received from time to time, the vital installations, monuments, protected areas and other sensitive places and important institutions located in various districts of the state, which may be vulnerable to potential terrorist attack and identified as necessary security arrangements are made accordingly,” Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said in the Assembly Monday.
The process as “continuous and dynamic”, the Chief Minister said in his written reply to a question of Congress member Naba Kishore Das. The security arrangements are reviewed at regular intervals to detect any shortfall on the security front so that the existing system can be further upgraded and streamlined, he said.
“In case of receipt of specific intelligence input regarding probable terrorist attack in a police station area, there is multiple augmentation in the security arrangements made in the area including augmentation of the existing manpower of the police stations concerned,” he said.
Patnaik said 18 marine police stations along the coast are also engaged in providing security.
“Steps are being taken to fill up the vacant posts in the police stations concerned through recruitment, transfer and promotion,” he said.
