Afghanistan: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani reacted to the bombing of parliamentary candidate Abdul Jabar Qahraman’s office Lashkargah city the capital of Helmand province.
Calling the slain candidate a martyr and brave son of Afghanistan, President Ghani hailed Qahraman for his tireless services for the development of the country as he condemned the attack that left to his death.
President Ghani further added that terrorists and their supporters cannot weaken the resolve and trust of people to elections, peace, and democracy by carrying out such attacks.
The Office of the President, ARG Palace, said President Ghani has instructed the relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate the incident, bring the perpetrators to justice, and take necessary measures to ensure safety of the electoral gatherings.
The Taliban militants group in Afghanistan has claimed responsibility for the explosion.
The Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi in a statement claimed that the candidate has been killed along with his three colleagues in the tactical explosion.
A police source confirms that the parliamentary candidate Abdul Jabar Qahraman has lost his life in the explosion which was triggered by an explosive device planted in his office.
The murder of Qahraman brought to 10 the number of killed parliamentary candidates in militants attacks since the beginning of election campaigns September 28 in the insurgency-plagued country.
More than 2,500 candidates are contesting for the 249 seats in the Afghan Parliament, with the October 20 elections denounced by insurgents as a “false” process that aims at legitimizing the presence of foreign troops in country.
