Aska: The State Bank of India’s (SBI) Aska branch in Ganjam district had a tough time drying up currency notes amounting to lakhs of rupees, which had got drenched in flood water for two days, reports said.
Incessant rain triggered by very cyclonic storm Titli had caused flash floods in the area. Water had entered the locker inside the strong room of the bank and inundated it for two days leaving bundles of currency notes exposed to water.
After water receded, authorities have stacked the currency notes on the bank’s roof for drying. The exact amount of drenched currency notes is yet to be established. The matter came to the fore after a video of the cash put up for drying on the bank’s terrace went viral.
As per experts, it takes 2-4 hours for the sun’s warmth to cause the water to evaporate from currency notes if they are arranged properly. The bank authorities are yet to comment on the matter.
