Bhubaneswar, March 21: With a rise in team India’s prospects of winning the Cricket World Cup 2015, many restaurants, bars and pubs are now toiling hard to cash in on the cricket World Cup mania. Many such utilities are now coming up with different offers and majority of them have decided to screen the remaining matches on big screens. Students of the city are however, the most disappointed lot; they are forced to concentrate only on studies and not cricket because of their on-going
examinations.
Bhubaneswar Club, one of the posh clubs of the city has decided to magnify the impact of the next match/matches that India will play. Talking to Orissa Post, P K Mishra, manager of the club said, “We have decided to install big screens during the semifinals and it (the decision to put up big screen) may be extended to the finals if India reaches that stage. We often witness good response from our club members during these events. We hope to see a good crowd during these matches.”
Besides clubs, hotels and pubs have also tightened their belts to match the tastes of the cricket fans. Subrato, assistant SME manager, Hotel Hindustan International said, “We have already stalled a big screen at our lounge bar to cater to the needs of the cricket crazy crowd. We did it when the (World Cup) cricket matches started. We are just trying to make sure that guests don’t miss out on any action on the fields.”
Swosti Grand however is not organising any big-screen viewing for their visitors but they have planned ‘something’ for the visitors during the matches. An official of the hotel said, “We already have a medium sized LED screen at our bar. We are rather giving special offer for the World Cup. We have a special package of `1,500 which comprises unlimited beer, snacks and chicken at our bars.” Many stand-alone bars and pubs in the city also have put in place some attractive offers for their cricket-loving customers.
School students however, seem to be losing out on the opportunity of spending a good time watching cricket because of examinations. Pratik Mishra, a student of Government High School said, “I love to watch cricket. And when it comes to cricket World Cup I go crazy; but my examination schedule has ruined everything. My parents don’t allow me to watch TV during exams. I wonder why World Cups are often held during exams.”
