Mohana: Tension gripped Kanteikoli village under Mohana block in Gajapati district after police stopped a sorcerer from performing a puja Saturday. He was called by the villagers to perform puja to ascertain the reason behind the death of a person.
However, locals opposed the sorcerer’s arrest and didn’t allow the police vehicle to move out of the village with him.
They even took away the sorcerer, identified as Premananda Parichha of Punamari village, from police custody.
According to reports, the villagers had sought Parichha’s help to ascertain the reason behind the death of Ranjan Mallick whom they suspected had died because of ‘witchcraft’ October 30.
On the other hand, police have cordoned off the area to nab the sorcerer till the time of filing of this report.
