Bhubaneswar: The first day of offline ticket sales for the men’s hockey World Cup starting November 28 in the capital city, received a huge response as all tickets for the India matches were sold out, sources said.
India begin their campaign on the opening day against South Africa, while they face Belgium (December 2) and Canada (December 8) in their next two pool games.
The counters opened at 10 in the morning, but hundreds of hockey and India fans had queued up before the counters since early morning and all the tickets were gone within few hours. However, Hockey India (HI) was unavailable for comment regarding the exact number of ticket sales Monday.
“I am really lucky to have got tickets for the India matches. I am going to come with my friends and we will be there for all the three pool games,” an IT employee from Patia said.
While some went home lucky, many were disappointed. “I came a bit late and didn’t get any ticket for the India matches as it was sold out for the day (Monday). I am going to come early tomorrow and hopefully will get the tickets,” a middle-aged man who came all the way Puri lamented.
