Puri: At least four fishermen sustained grievous injuries following a blast during the construction of fiber boats near the banks of Chilika Lake in Bhagabata Sahi under Brahmagiri police limits in Puri district Friday morning.
The injured persons have been identified as Abinash Behera, Babrubahan alias Babula Behera and Abhiram Behera and Narsingha Behera.
The injured persons were immediately rushed to Rebana Nuagaon community health centre for preliminary treatment. Later, they were shifted to Puri district headquarters hospital.
According to reports, the explosion occurred at around 9.30 am at Bhagabat Sahi under Arakhakuda Marine police limits where the four were engaged in boat making by mixing chemicals and setting it on fire.
While no exact reason behind the blast is clear, it is being suspected some boxes containing chemicals for fibre coating could be the reason behind the blast.
The injured sustained severe facial injuries and their hands and legs sustained maximum injuries.
On being informed, the marine police reached the spot and started an investigation into the incident.
