Baripada: Family members of a migrant labourer are left in distress after he died mysteriously while working in Tamil Nadu and his body is yet to reach home after four days to his death, reports said.
The bereaved family members pleaded to the administration and the labour department to take notice of their plight and bring back the body for the last rites.
The deceased, Debasish Sahoo of Baghara Road area in Baripada town of Mayurbhanj district died in Tamil Nadu four days back. Reportedly, Debasish had gone to Tamil Nadu with the help of a broker around one and half years ago.
While the actual reason behind Debasish’ death is yet to be ascertained, his parents allege that it is not a natural death. They requested the district administration to bring back his body and initiate an investigation. Due to the financial difficulty of his family, his parents are not able to visit Tamil Nadu and bring his body back, sources said.
Family members suspected him to have been killed in a pre-planned manner by some fellow native workers over petty disputes.
“He had informed us about the regular fights he had with fellow workers over some issue and wanted to come back. He had also told us that he would return in January. I request the administration for an investigation and bring back the body,” Debasish’s father said.
Similarly, another worker–Khetrabasi Sahoo of Baburampatna village under Sadar police limits in Kendrapara district, has reportedly gone missing in Malaysia since September 29.
His family members have been running from pillar to post to trace his whereabouts, all in vain. Meanwhile, family members said that they received a call from an unknown person who informed that Khetrabasi has been arrested by the police and he is in danger.
Khetrabasi’s family members have sought the intervention of the district adminstration, Chief Minister, Prime Minister and Ministry of External Affairs about the matter and urged them to intervene.
The documents availaible with Khetrabasi’s parents mention that he has a license to stay in Malaysia till November 29.
The district labour officer informed that steps are being taken for repatriation of Khetrabasi.
Kendrapara district labour officer, Kalpana Mishra said, “After receiving a complaint from his parents, we have sent a letter to Labour Commissioner through the district Collector for his repatriation.”
