Malkangiri/Koraput: A 12-hour dawn-to-dusk bandh called by the Maoists in Koraput and Malkangiri districts against death of three ultras in separate police encounters has badly affected normal life in the area Tuesday.
Several posters were found put up at Hatibari near Nandapur in the district protesting the death of three cadres in separate police encounters.
According to sources, road communication in the district has been disrupted as government buses in the area have been suspended due to the protest. Some private buses, running on these routes, have also been cancelled. Besides, shops and other business establishments have remained closed due to the protest.
Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee of CPI (Maoist) has called the bandh to protest the death of Maoist Meena October 12 and two other cadres, Sushil and Sulita, November 5 in police encounters.
In the anti-Maoist posters, the ultras have been dubbed as murderer and accused of torturing tribals and hampering development of the area.
Moreover, the Maoists have put up posters at Madakapadar in Malkangiri district, threatening people that they would be tried at Praja Court. The posters also mentions about shabby developmental works in the area.
However, it is yet to be ascertained whether these posters have been put up by the ultras or it is the handiwork of mischief-mongers.
Meanwhile, police forces have been deployed at several places in the district to avoid any untoward incident during the protest.
On the other hand, several posters, opposing the bandh called by the Maoists, were found at Hatibari near Nandapur and Khairaput area, were recovered Tuesday.
