Sambalpur: The district administration has decided to widen the Bhutapara-Dhankauda road onto a four lane stretch to ease traffic. The project will be executed by the works department, official reports said.
The Bhutapara-Dhankauda road is one of the busiest in the city and is used by heavy vehicles, especially buses, to reach the city. Hundred of vehicles regularly ply the road since many government institutions, including the government women’s college, Veer Surendra Sai stadium, Dr Parshuram Misra Institute of Advanced Studies in Education, Deer Park and the office of the SP are situated along this route. Commuters especially students, face severe inconvenience due to traffic congestion.
So, the administration decided to upgrade the road to avoid traffic and repeated accidents. An estimated budget of Rs 12cr has been allocated for the project. Rs 4crore has been launched for first phase. A footpath and drain would also be constructed to avoid the traffic.
”The road will be built into to four lanes in three phases. While the length of the road is three km, only one km will be widened in the first phases,” said executive engineer of Division-I of the works department Gauranga Charan Sahu. He said the remaining section would be widened after the completion of the first phases.
“The tender for the first phase has been finalised. Work will begin soon,” said official.
