Basudevpur: Cracking down a major whip against illicit liquor sale, the local women of Bhairabpur near Basudevpur in Bhadrak district, barged into the house of a liquor trader, roughed him up and handed him over to police Wednesday.
Locals alleged that many teenagers in the villager have started using liquor and narcotic materials due to the involvement of the liquor trader.
In a bid to curb the illicit liquor sale, women of the village and senior citizens held a meeting Tuesday following which they warned the trader to refrain from selling alcohol. However, he ignored the warning and continued the sale of liquor.
Fed up with the scenario, more than 50 local women barged into the house of the trader, pulled him out to the streets and thrashed him. Later they handed him over to the police, reports said.
