Keonjhar: A woman who was rendered critical in elephant attack is now battling for life at the district headquarters hospital here, a report said Monday.
The woman was identified as Ghanta Mallick, wife of Bhima Mallick in Badakula village under Jatra panchayat of Bansapal block.
Thanks to the negligence of the hospital authorities and lack of concern of the forest officials the woman has been languishing in neglect on the hospital bed and might die if the hospital authorities and forest department do not take urgent measures to provide her proper treatment and financial assistance.
The doctor advised her for administration of blood but she is yet to get the same due to lack of money.
They have also recommended shifting her to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack but lack of money has proved a hindrance in availing advance treatment. In the absence of any treatment and care her health condition is worsening day by day. Her condition has deteriorated a lot and she is unable to feed her 2-yr old baby boy
The hospital authorities have shown no concern in providing her blood while the forest department is yet to provide her any financial assistance to meet the expenses of her treatment. Her husband has exhausted all the money at his disposal and is no more able to meet her medical expenses.
The incident occurred when elephants attacked her house November 28. She ran out of her to save her life when a tusker attacked her and gored her tusk in her hand.
She managed to save her life but the attack left her critically injured with flesh coming out of her hand. Family members rescued her and admitted her to the hospital with the help of forest officials. However, they never thought to look back and provide her money for her treatment
Since then over 20 days have passed she is writhing in pain and cursing her own fate lying on the hospital bed without getting any proper treatment.
Family members have requested the district administration to intervene and provide them with some financial assistance for her treatment before her health condition worsens and results in death.
