Koraput: A tribal woman from Maoist-infested Malkangiri district has cleared the Odisha Civil Services Examination-2017.
Sandhya Samarath, daughter of Ramdev Samarath, of Salimi village in Mathili block, was ranked 91st in the civil service examination held by OPSC.
An alumna of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Malkangiri, Sandhya did post-graduation at the Ravenshaw University after graduation from BJB Autonomous College. Later, she enrolled for M.Phil and Ph.D at the state’s premier varsity.
She cleared the tough examination through hard work without attending any coaching class.
The entire village of Samlimi and Malkangiri district celebrated Sandhya’s success.
The results were announced by the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) Wednesday.
According to a notification, the Commission provisionally selected 106 candidates on the basis of the personality test conducted as part of the Odisha Civil Services Examination-2017 held from December 3 to 10.
Of the 106 successful candidates, 42 are women, 21 belong to Scheduled Castes, 21 to Scheduled Tribes and 13 come under the SEBC category.
This year, women have outshone male candidates in the Odisha Civil Services Examination by securing the top three ranks.
