Jhumpura: A farmer has allegedly been cheated by Champua regulated market committee (RMC), reports said.
The RMC has taken Rs 60, 000 from a farmer, promising him a shop on rent basis.
The farmer is now running from pillar to post to get the shop or money back.
Jayadhan Mahanata is a small time farmer of Maheswarpur village and he applied for a shop at Champua RMC five years ago.
The then accountant of the RMC had asked Jayadhan to deposit Rs 60, 000.
As the amount was a huge one for a small farmer like Jayadhan, he arranged money by pawning his land, borrowing from friends and relatives and selling paddy. When he deposited the money, the accountant gave him a receipt as well.
Though five years have passed since he deposited money, Jayadhan is yet to get the room.
Upon enquiry, Jayadhan came to know that the receipt he received was a fake one.
The accountant Chintamani Mahanta has been put under suspension for some other reasons for two months.
Daily and weekly markets in Jhumpura, Rimuli, Champua, Bamebari, Joda, Barbil, Ukhunda and some other areas are under the Champua RMC. The RMC has also its own shop rooms in some of these areas. It collects fees from the markets and monthly rent from the shop keepers. Mostly small time businessmen and farmers are running their shops from RMC shop rooms.
The RMC is under the government’s control. The Sub Collector is its chairman. The Champua RMC has been in the middle of several allegations like irregularities in collecting fees from daily and weekly markets and corruption in allotting shop rooms.
When contacted, RMC secretary Sapan Kumar Sahoo said the office record did not match with Jayadhan’s receipt. The Sub Collector has to take action in this regard.
Despite repeated attempts, Sub Collector Parole Patuari could not be contacted for his reaction.
