post news network, Bhubaneswar, April 12: Be it to the tune of the Vande Mataram that has an everlasting spell on all of us, or to the light Bollywood numbers such as Katiya Kalaiya ve, kids aged between three and 13 shook their legs with such elegance and at times with such ‘innocence’ that the packed auditorium at the Soochana Bhawan in the city erupted in joy Sunday.
Students of Maria Montessori School of Little Angels were, in fact, celebrating their 12th annual function at the Bhawan Sunday morning. Parents thronged the site to get a glimpse of their children performing on various songs on stage.
“My son studies in class III. At home, he often dances whenever songs are aired on television. I was told that my son will perform on a patriotic song. I was thrilled. Here I saw my only child dancing on stage for the first time. I felt really happy and proud when I saw him perform with full confidence. Such programmes give the students an opportunity to build their personality beyond academics,” said Sanjay Beuria, father of one of the students.
The auditorium at the Soochana Bhawan was bursting at its seams when the programme started at around 11am in the morning. Many students were felicitated during the event for their performances in co-curricular and sports activities organised at their school.
Bijan Behera, chief engineer, National Highways Authority of India, Tamasa Rani Das Mahapatra, principal Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, Chinmay Kumar, Mamata Mishra and Manoj Mishra, cine artists, were also present during the occasion to encourage the tiny tots.
Speaking during the occasion, Tamasa Mahapatra said, “The education scenario has undergone many changes in the past few decades. Many students are often pressurised to perform well in examinations. I feel the time has changed. Parents should seldom pressurise them for academic excellence. Many kids are talented in diverse fields. Parents should always support them and encourage them for the unique virtues they have”.
