Cuttack, April 14: The Silver City was in for a shock Tuesday with news spreading about the murder of a man in Malgodown area, which marred observance of the auspicious Maha Bishuba Sankranti.
According to police, Dhana Das (37), working as a truck helper, was murdered Monday night and his body was found near the vehicle Tuesday morning. “He was bludgeoned to death with a stone while he was asleep,” police said.
Two blood-stained pieces of stones were recovered from under the truck. A team of Commissionerate Police and forensic department officials reached the spot and collected evidence. However, the reason for the gruesome murder was not clear.
Truck owner PK Panda said the blood-stained body of the helper was found by passersby in the morning. “I reached the spot upon hearing the news,” he said. He said he has no idea as to who did the heinous act.
Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora said five persons including the truck driver have been detained for questioning. “We’ve received some inputs but nothing can be revealed since the investigation is in a preliminary stage,” he said, adding a case has been registered with Malgodown police.
