Bhubaneswar: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) Friday claimed that the Interim Union Budget of 2019-2020 has gifted Odisha with a new railway line from Talcher to Angul in Odisha, besides allocation of funds for the existing rail projects in the state.
As per the ECoR officials, the new line between Talcher and Angul is 14.5 km-long and will be constructed at an estimated cost of `278 crore. The department, meanwhile, also claims that the total allotment of funds to the ECoR has also been hiked this year.
A media release from the department said, “Total allotment of funds for ECoR is `7010 crore. This is 13 per cent more than last year. This includes all budgetary heads including projects, electrifications, passenger amenities, workshops, track and staff amenities among others.”
The Budget documents claim that the allotment for new lines this year for this zone of the railways stands at `2680 crore, which is 67 per cent more than the last year. On the other hand, the allotment for passenger amenities stands at `181 crore against `82 crore last year, a rise of 119%.
ECoR also claims that an allocation of `1,230 has been made for the six proposed new railway lines under the project, which includes the Angul-Sukinda line, Haridaspur-Paradeep line, Khurda Road-Bolangir line, Talcher-Bimalagarh line, Jeypore-Malkangiri line and Jeypore-Nabarangpur line.
On the other side the doubling/third line works in 11 proposed railway lines has been granted `1685 crore which includes several lines like Koraput-Singapur Road (Rs 205 crore), Vijaynagaram-Sambalpur third line (Rs 350 crore), Sambalpur-Talcher dopubling (Rs 249 crore), Rourkela-Jharsuguda third line (Rs 150 crore) among others.
