New Delhi: The state government Friday withdrew a special leave petition (SLP) filed in the Supreme Court challenging Orissa High Court order directing it to fill up the vacant post of ad hoc members in the Odisha Administrative Tribunal (OAT).

The petition was listed before the bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Sanjiv Khanna. The CJI did not share his observation on the case.

During the hearing, the counsel appearing for the state said that the state government did not want to press the case further. Hence, the case was withdrawn.

The Odisha State Administrative Tribunal Bar Association had filed a petition in the Orissa High Court seeking appointment of ad hoc members in the tribunal. The Orissa High Court had directed the state government to fill up the vacancies of ad hoc members in the Odisha Administrative Tribunal by January 10.

The state had challenged the HC order in the Supreme Court through a special leave petition February 8.

The OAT has a sanctioned strength of seven members and one chairman. The tribunal is going to function with one member and the chairman from beginning of March this year.
