Mohali, April 27: Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) skipper David Warner (58, 41b, 10×4, 1×6) held his team’s innings together as they posted a not-too- competitive 150 for the loss six wickets in their IPL-VIII match against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) here Monday. There were contributions from Moses Henriques (30, 32b, 1×4) and Naman Ojha (28, 26b, 3×4) but those were not enough to propel SRH to a match-winning score.
In fact the scoring rate suffered a lot as Henriques and Ojha put on 45 runs for the fourth wicket but in the process consumed 42 balls. That hit the visitors hard and they just could manage to hit the 150-run mark because of a swashbuckling knock from Ashish Reddy (22 n o, 8b, 1×4, 2×6).
Mitchell Johnson (2/39) bowled well at the start for KXIP while left-arm spinner Axar Patel (2/25) bowled a very tidy spell during the middle overs. But the most impressive bowling came from part-time off-spinner Murali Vijay who just conceded 16 runs in his three overs.
Johnson started proceedings on a bright note getting Shikhar Dhawan early, caught at slip by Vijay. But that didn’t deter Warner from playing his shots. He hit Johnson for two fours in the bowler’s first over and then when the he returned to bowl his second the left-hander took him for 15 runs including a top-edged six over third man.
But Warner in trying to keep the tempo going holed out to David Miller at long-on off Patel.
Brief scores: SRH 150 for six (David Warner 58, Axar Patel 2/25) versus KXIP. Match to continue.
