Sajanagarh: The Central Excise Intelligence Department Wednesday evening arrested two persons and seized 1400 litres of country liquor after chasing a Scorpio vehicle at Santaragadia in Balasore district.
Acting on a tip off that country liquor was being smuggled in a Scorpio, a team of Central Excise Intelligence Department followed the vehicle which was going to Bhadrak from old Balasore area.
When the driver of Scorpio saw the chasing team, he diverted the route to Santaragadia area.
However, the vehicle got stuck in a traffic jam in Santaragadia market following which the Central Excise team arrested two and seized the country liquor. However, the driver of the vehicle managed to escape.
The accused have been identified as Haraprasad (35) of Gopalpur in Balasore and Aditya Mahalik (30) of Kalyani.
Both have been handed over to Nilgiri police. Inspector Jagdish Chandra Samal, constables Basant Kumar Mallick, Purnachandra Mahapatra and Bunty Mahapatra were in the team.
