Bari: The Bari Community Health Centre (CHC) at Allipur here in Jajpur district is facing numerous problems. Shortage of doctors at this health centre has impacted healthcare services. Six posts of doctors are vacant while there are only two permanent doctors at present.
Besides, due to lack of security street dogs are occupying beds meant for patients. Rainwater leaks and falls on beds through broken windows.
The CHC has now become a hub of anti-socials. No patient welfare meetings have been held here since 2016. The ambulance of the hospital is also damaged.
Sources said Ratnagiri, Balia, Kalamati, Krushanagar Primary Health Centres and Bodua, Udayapur Homoeopathy Hospitals and the Gamu Ayurvedic Hospital come under this CHC.
There are no specialists and assistants in the departments of Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology. As per rules there must be one specialist and two assistants in each medical department.
Doctors from primary health centres come here to see patients every week. The Tata Group donated a room with 30 beds, but that is in a bad shape now. The unhealthy atmosphere and broken beds here are making patients ill instead of healing them.
Moreover, the AYUSH scheme has failed at this CHC while funds allotted for awareness programmes are allegedly misappropriated.
Due to lack of security, women patients are reluctant to come to this CHC.
Dr Jinnat Kumar Dash of Balia PHC, who works here as in-charge doctor, said he has to work here as many posts of doctors are vacant.
The public held a meeting February 27 demanding appointment of adequate doctors. The Bari Deepanchal Unnayan Parishad, a local outfit, staged a demo in front of the tehsil office. The outfit said Friday that if its demands are not accepted it will scale up the protests.
ADMO Rudra Pratap Kar said they had held a meeting with the outfit Friday at the Collectorate. The meet decided to appoint adequate doctors soon.
