Bhubaneswar, May 5: After much dilly-dallying, the ambitious plan of popularising traditional Indian medicine system through National AYUSH Mission (NAM) has finally become a reality in the state.
NAM will hereafter have a governing body, an executive body and a society. Soon after the notification by the Union government, the state has constituted the two bodies which will be headed by Chief Secretary and Director, Health services respectively. However, the society has been formed and formally registered recently.
“The registration of the society has been done recently. It comprises nine members drawn from various state departments. The annual action plan under the society has been presented before the members today. The next step will be the approval of state government,” said AYUSH director Basudev Bahinipati.
Under NAM, the state government has been contemplating to set up an AYUSH village for every 10,000 people and above, establish a research wing on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, strengthen Ayurvedic and Homoeopathic medical colleges and hospitals including other institutions in the state, according to sources.
“The idea behind the mission is to popularise the Indian medicine system and simultaneously ease the burden on mainstream healthcare system prevalent in the country. It will be a great step to uplift the dying culture,” said an official of the directorate.
In the initial phases, the state has prepared a plan under NAM and sought Rs 17.66crore from the Union government which has been sanctioned, according to reports.
The Tuesday’s meeting has decided on the second phase of the implementation. The detailed plan will be out soon, Ayush director informed Orissa POST.
