Bhubaneswar, May 5: The state government has decided to form an internal committee to take action against private hospitals and insurance companies in the wake of increasing reports of corruption in the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojna (RSBY) and Biju Krishak Kalyan Yojna (BKKY).
A committee comprising members of the labour, agriculture and health departments will be formed, it was decided at a high-level meeting chaired by health and family welfare minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak held here Monday. The committee will make regular visits to the empanelled private hospitals under the schemes and keep a close eye on beneficiaries. It will also check if there is any dual transfer of money to beneficiaries from either the insurance companies or the Orissa State Treatment Fund.
Another high-level team comprising the labour department director, agriculture department director and National Health Mission director will be formed to ensure greater participation of poor people in the schemes. At the meeting it was revealed that some private hospitals and insurance companies have joined hands to generate fake bills and cheat both the patients and the government.
The health minister has reiterated that such things will not be tolerated and stringent action will be taken against any private hospital or insurance company that is found to be involved in such activities.
Private hospitals have also been asked to display a list of available facilities and the charges while patients have been advised to check the bills properly. Since its inception, RSBY and BKKY have enrolled nearly 44 lakh and 32 lakh families, respectively. There are around 154 private hospitals empanelled in RSBY and 138 in BKKY.
