Mohana, May 8: A person of Khariguda village under the block of Gajapati district has allegedly sold a 16-year-old girl of Muktinagar village in Goa.
Though the accused Junesh Nayak had sold the girl around 15 months ago, the matter came to light after the victim’s father who had gone to another state to work as a labourer returned to his village and lodged a complaint with the police recently.
According to the complaint filed by the girl’s father Panchu Parichha, he had gone to another state to work as a labourer around two years ago. Taking advantage of his absence, the accused Junesh Nayak had taken his daughter Mina to Goa on the pretext of securing job for her. But, instead of providing job to her, he had sold her some persons.
Panchu was completely unaware of the matter. When he returned home recently, he enquired regarding whereabouts of his daughter. He came to know that Junesh had sold his daughter in Goa following which he lodged a complaint against the latter with Mohana police. On the basis of the complaint, police registered a case and started investigation into the matter. The accused is at large.
It may be mentioned here that woman trafficking is rampant in rural areas of Mohana block. Middle-men associated with the woman trafficking racket are luring minor and young girls in tribal dominated villages on the pretext of securing job for them in other states and taking them out of state. Then, they are selling them to other persons.
An incident came to light a few months ago in which a two minor girls of Malaspadar area under the block were allegedly tortured in Goa. These girls were also raped by some persons. Police had arrested three middle-men in this connection.
Though such incidents are regularly coming to light, the administration is not taking any concrete steps to check woman trafficking from the block.
