Bhubaneswar: The 31st Cadet, Junior, U-21 State Karate Championships started at the Utkal Karate School here, Saturday. A total of 175 competitors from 22 districts are taking part in the meet.
The teams for the three-day national championships at Guwahati to be played April 5-7 will be selected from this meet.
Competitors are participating in male and female Kata and Kumite categories. The weight categories are under-47kg, under-48kg, under-52 kg, under-54kg, above-54kg, under-63kg, under-70kg and above-70 kg.
The tournament will end Sunday evening and the prize distribution ceremony will be conducted on the same day at the school premises.
