Bhubaneswar: City boy Abhishek Swain’s silent short film Life Drop was officially declared winner at the Global India International Film Festival, Monday. The film was screened at the National Film Archives of India in Pune, Saturday.
Speaking to Orissa POST, Abhishek said, “In rural India a child dies in every 30 seconds due to unsafe water.” He stressed that safe drinking water is not a privilege but a right.
The film was shot in tribal areas of Bonda hills in Malkanagiri. The narration of the film is symbolic and experimental too.
It has already won the Best film award in ‘Human Rights Short Film Festival’ in Bangladesh while competing among 738 films from 82 countries.
The movie broke into the final list at the 16th Frames Film Festival in Navi Mumbai and also got selected at Velcom Smart film in Russia.
It may be mentioned here that Life Drop is Abhishek’s third short film.
According to Abhishek, storytelling does not depend upon length and budget factors rather it depends upon the idea and presentation.
“In Life Drop I tried to portray a filmmaker’s point of view from behind a viewfinder where sound effects and editing process is used as a part ofstorytelling. It’s a black and white film which shows dark underbelly of poverty stricken children. The fast screenplay is used to portray violence ensued due to unsafe water,” he added.
Abhishek’s last film ‘Few Miles Away’ won the 1st runners up award at ‘Ignite Film Festival 2019’ which is based on environmental issue.
