post news network, Bhubaneswar, May 10: A programme to celebrate the World Mother’s Day was held at the Buddha temple in the city by Women’s Organisation for Social Welfare (WOSW) to commemorate the services rendered by millions of mothers living in the world.
Deliberations were held in order to emphasise the importance of mothers in the contemporary society. The programme which started with the lighting of the lamp, witnessed many renowned personalities speaking about the significance of mothers in the changing society.
Speaking on the occasion, Niranjan Sahoo, collector, Khurda said, “I pay tribute to the mothers worldwide for the uninterrupted services rendered by them. It is really tough to define a mother. Words are not potent enough to define mothers and their roles in the society. Their services are very important for the welfare of the society.”
Mamata Rani Mohanty, president of WOSW said, “On the second Sunday of every May, the world celebrates Mother’s Day and pays tribute to the mothers worldwide for their services, which are often non-binding on them. Mothers have very special and significant role in the society and in nurturing the next generation.”
Savita Panda, a teacher in Kendriya Vidyalaya, CRP said, “Mothers play a crucial role in the society which is unparalleled. Children who are newly born know their mother the best. The love and compassion shown by them are not comparable to anything. Their nurturing largely shapes the future of any society or country. We must appreciate their hard work and contribution to the society.”
Numerous mothers and ladies participated in the event. Social worker Jayanti Rath was felicitated for her services to the society on the occasion.
City schools also celebrated the Day in style. While most of the schools chose to observe the Day on their premises, the St. Xavier International School followed a different way to celebrate the Day. They chose a city hotel as the venue of the celebrations. Apart from the discussions on the role of mothers in society in which many parents took part the authorities felicitated three mothers for their dedication towards their kid’s well being. Those felicitated were Muktabala Mohapatra, Sarmistha Chowdhary and Ritarani Panigrahi.
Ananata Narayan Jena the mayor was the chief guest. Namrata Chadha state president of All India Human Rights Council, Dr Gayatri Mishra the principal-cum-director academic along with various other dignitaries were present on the ocassion.
Ananta Narayan said, “Mothers usually play a very important part in everyone’s life, as she is the beacon to all our hopes, ideas, skills and desired goals.” Namrata Chadha used several quotes, in course of her speech, to uphold the important role played by the mothers.
