Bhubaneswar: Adding another feature in its cap, an employee of East Coast Railway (ECoR) headquarters here has topped the ‘National-Level All-India Railway Painting Competition’ organised by the Railway Board at Guwahati in Assam Sunday.
Shyam Sundar Achary’s painting has been greatly appreciated by all. The painting was themed ‘Rail, Rivers & Hills’ wherein Achary brought out the elements of nature through his brush-strokes. Altogether, 24 participants from different railway zones in the country took part in the competition.
Last year, Achary’s painting on ‘Transforming Railways’ wherein he brought out the elements of modernity of bullet train and new technology from heritage concept of pre-Independence Indian Railways with its most famous passenger ever, the Father of the Nation—Mahatma Gandhi. It is this painting which brought laurels for Achary from across the country. He is working in ECoR since 2008 and is a native of Paralakhemundi in Ganjam.
Achary has won many awards from various organisations and from the state government too. He is extremely gifted and has excelled in sketching portraits, other figurative works and blends a rare mixture of realistic and surrealistic creative work which is being greatly appreciated in contemporary art circles.
