Koshagumuda/Daspalla/Telkoi, May 16: In separate incidents, five persons including three women were killed and three others hurt in different parts of the state in the last 24 hours.
Two members of a family were killed and two others were injured after lightning struck them in Kusuma Dongoriguda village under Koshagumuda block in Nabarangpur district Saturday. The incident occurred when all of them were sitting under a tree near their house. The deceased were Mukul Bhatra(22) and Arjun Bhatra(15). The injured persons are undergoing treatment in Nabarangpur district headquarters hospital.
A 45-year-old woman belonging to Bhoisahi under the block in Nayagarh district was critically injured as lightning struck her Saturday afternoon. Lightning struck Laxmi Das (45) when she was sitting at her home. She was admitted to a hospital here. Three houses of Rabindra Das, Alekh Das and Bharat Das turned into ashes due to lightning at the same place. Fire brigades from Nuagaon reached the place and doused the flame.
Thunderstorms Friday evening played havoc in the area. Two persons of Munda Sahi in Oria panchayat in Keonjhar district were killed while one was hurt in lightning strike during the thunderstorms. The wounded is undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
Heavy rains with gusty winds blew away thatched covers of several houses in the area.
Due to lightning strike, Sumi Munda and her daughter Kamali Munda (7) died on the spot while Sukumari Munda (55) was hurt. Post mortem of the bodies has been conducted.
The asbestos roof of Telkoi electricity office has been blown away completely. The rood of Ramchandrapur Primary school also suffered similar damages. Scores of tree have been uprooted in Dobalapal, Ghutapasi, Jata, Chhamunda, Binjabahal, Akula, Goda and Padang.
