Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on WhatsAppShare on Linkedin

Crying or shedding of tears happens due to an emotional state, pain or a physical irritation of the eye. Emotions can lead us to anger, happiness, or sadness.
Usually, people try to suppress or hide tears as they think it is a sign of weakness, but science suggests that doing so you could miss some of benefits. Here’s why you should cry… at least sometimes
Soothing effect
A study found that crying may have soothing effect on people. As crying activates the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) in the body, it helps people to relax.

Gets support from others: Crying is attachment behaviour and at times help in attracting support from people around you. Hence it is a form of social bonding.

Relieve pain: Research has found that while crying our body releases oxytocin and endorphins. These chemicals make people feel good and may also ease both physical and emotional pain. Through this, crying promote a sense of well-being.

Enhances mood: Crying may help lift people’s spirits and make them feel better. As well as relieving pain, oxytocin and endorphins can help improve mood.

Aids sleep: A study in 2015 found that crying help babies sleep better. Same may apply for adults, but till date there is no confirmation on this fact. However, calming, pain-relieving effects of crying might help person fall asleep more easily.
