Digapahandi/ Jhumpura: While a person died and two others were critically injured in lightning strikes in Keonjhar Sunday, a woman also succumb to burn injuries from lightning in Ganjam Saturday.
In the first incident, a woman died from lightning at Shankarkhali village under this block in Ganjam district Saturday. The deceased was identified as Sushma Naik (35) wife of a casual labourer Sudarshan Naik in the village. She was struck by lightning when she was working in her backyard in the afternoon. Family members rushed her to the Digapahandi community health centre where doctors pronounced her brought-dead. Digapahandi tehsildar visited the spot and conducted a probe. Sarpanch Santosh Kumar Patra, social activist Santosh Sahu and Seemanchal Goud demanded financial assistance for the ‘poor’ bereaved family from the state government. She is survived by her husband and two minor children.
A person died and two others were hurt in separate lightning strikes in Jhumpura area of Keonjhar Sunday. Many parts of Jhumpura were struck by thunders at noon, sources said. Brahmananda Nayak (50) of Haripasi was on his way to his farmland when lightning struck him. Khageswar Mohant (35) of Balipasi was outside his house when lightning struck him. He was critically hurt. Similarly, Jogendra Karua (14) was wounded on the block premises.
