Malkangiri: In serious violation of medical ethics, a group of nurses was spotted making TikTok videos instead of attending to patients at the neo-natal ward of Malkangiri district headquarters hospital (DHH) here.
Chief district medical officer Ajit Kumar Mohanty Wednesday issued show-cause notices to some nurses for extreme medical negligence and recording TikTok videos inside the sick newborn care unit (SNCU) of the district headquarters hospital.
The CDMO issued the show-cause notices after some TikTok videos of nurses on duty went viral on the social media. The nurses were seen singing, dancing and frolicking inside the SNCU in the video. The hospital beds and patients were seen along with the uniformed nurses in the video.
Even a child patient was seen in the video. TikTok is an iOS and Android media app for creating and sharing short music videos.
The SNCU was set up at the hospital for treatment of critically ill new-born children as Malkangiri recorded a high rate of infant mortality. Additional district medical officer and the hospital’s officer in-charge Tapan Kumar Dinda said an inquiry is being conducted and the probe report will be submitted for necessary action.
“I have initiated a probe into the matter and will submit the report to the CDMO for necessary action,” he said. The CDMO has described the incident as “unfortunate.” None from the accused nurses were immediately available for comment.
