Manchester:  Ross Taylor (67 batting) held up one end firmly, but wickets continued to tumble at the other as New Zealand reached 211 for 5 in 46.1 overs when rain stopped play at the Old Trafford here Tuesday. According to the Duckworth/Lewis System (DLS), if India get to bat only 20 overs in the game, their winning target would be 148 while for 46 overs it would be 237. In case there is no play possible Friday, the ICC has a reserve day in store and the game will resume Wednesday from when play had been called off. If there is no possibility of the match resuming both Tuesday and Wednesday, the Men in Blue will qualify for the finals having finished on top of the points table

India hit back with Williamson’s wicket

Manchester:  Yuzvendra Chahal struck a major blow as he dismissed Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson (67, 95b, 6×4) just as the batsman was poised to accelerate. New Zealand at the end of 40 overs are still to achieve the run rate of four runs per over with a score of 155 for three. Williamson was caught at point by Ravindra Jadeja as he tried to cut the ball over the fielder’s head. Now the Kiwi hopes depend on Ross Taylor (38 batting) and James Neesham (7 batting).

Williamson knock props New Zealand

Manchester:  Kane Williamson (54 batting) with a fine half century held the New Zealand innings together as they reached for the loss of two wickets against India in the World Cup semifinal encounter at the Old Trafford here Tuesday. Giving the Kiwi skipper company was Ross Taylor (21 batting). The two have so far put on 44 runs for the third wicket. However, leg-spinner Chahal, who came in for Kuldeep Yadav has failed to make an impression on the Kiwi batsmen.

New Zealand fightback through Williamson, Nicholls

Manchester: Skipper Kane Williamson (32 batting) and Henry Nicholls (28) put on a nice little partnership of 68 runs for the second wicket as New Zealand fought back to reach after the end of 20 overs. India who are playing the game with only five bowlers have a lot to think about as Hardik Pandya appeared injured after bowling four overs. Ravindra Jadeja claimed the wicket of Nicholls clean bowling the batsman.

New Zealand 27 for one after 10 overs

Manchester: New Zealand were at the end of 10 overs with Jasprit Bumrah dismissing the out of form Martin Guptill (1) after New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat. Guptill was brilliantly caught by Indian skipper Virat Kohli who flew to his right to snare the catch. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Bumrah started proceedings and bowled a tight length and line keeping the Kiwi batsmen Henry Nicholls (10 batting) and Kane Williamson (14 batting) in check. New Zealand could only hit two boundaries in the first 10 overs.

New Zealand win the toss, elect to bat, Chahal comes in place of Kuldeep

Manchester: New Zealand won the toss and decided to bat first in the crucial World Cup semifinal at the Old Trafford here, Tuesday. Indian skipper Virat Kohli, however, said at the toss that batting second won’t make much of a difference as the pitch will stay true throughout the game. India have made one change to the team that played against Sri Lanka, leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has come in place of Kuldeep Yadav. The Indian team for the game: Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, MS Dhoni, Dinesh Karthik, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Yuzvendra Chahal and Jasprit Bumrah.
