Malkangiri: Vehicular movement in Malkangiri district came back to normalcy after days of disruption due to submergence of bridges following incessant rain. Over 600 people have been shifted to safer places from the low-lying areas, informed district administration officials.
The motorways were snapped in several blocks connecting Jeypore, Kalimela and Balimela with water flowing 4-5 ft above roads while communication on Malkangiri-Kalimela-Motu and Malkangiri-Mathili-Govindpalli-Jeypore routes on NH-326 was disrupted. Low-lying bridges in MV-7, Potteru and Kangrukonda were also submerged.
Similarly, the link on Malkangiri-Kalimela-Podia route was cut off as the road in Undrukonda was inundated by flash flood triggered by incessant downpour for a couple of days.
Malkangiri Collector Manish Agarwal had suspended the classes of all schools Friday and Saturday in the wake of forecast of heavy rain by the Metrological department.
District Legal Service Authority and Special Disaster Management teams had visited the affected areas in the district and have made an assessment of the loss incurred to the affected people due to the flood in the district.
According to District Legal Service Authority Secretary Amresh Nayak, the report after making a thorough review said road communication at various places in the district have been disrupted by the flood water.
Flood water has also gushed into Tarlakata and Sikapali areas in Kalimela tehsil, MV-2, MV-7, MV 11 Kangurukonda, Poteru and flowing above 3 feet above several bridges in these areas, damaging the house of people and roads in these areas. More than 7,000 hectars were damaged in the district. The officers and district collector assured the villagers they will make all possible help to the affected people.
