Basudevpur: A youth doused petrol on a minor girl and set her afire at Nuagan under Basudevpur block of Bhadrak over alleged failure in love affair. Critically burnt, the girl who was being treated at Cuttack succumbed to her burns Monday.
Meanwhile, police arrested the accused Sidharth Malllick, 19, and produced him in a court Tuesday.
Police have registered a case after the victim’s father lodged an FIR August 24. The girl was alone in the house August 21 when the youth approached her and proposed to marry her.
When the girl refused to entrain the marriage proposal, the youth became furious and hurled petrol he had taken with him and set her ablaze.
The girl who ustained 80 per cent burns was rushed to Basudevpur PHC and later shifted to a hospital in Cuttack.
