Bhubaneswar, July 21: Six unidentified robbers looted a real-estate accountant at Sishupalgarh and decamped with gold jewellery and cash at knifepoint in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The miscreants broke into the house (52/104, Lane 3) in Gangotri Nagar at Sishupalgarh by twisting the window grills at 2am while its owner Surendra Sahoo and his wife Manasi were asleep.
Dhauli inspector in-charge (IIC) Rashmi Ranjan Sahoo said the six dacoits tied the couple with ropes and put a kitchen knife to Surendra’s neck before plundering the house. Before decamping with valuables, the dacoits also assaulted the couple with sticks.
The perpetrators picked up the knife from Sahoo’s kitchen, the Dhauli IIC added.
Three gold mangalsutras, two gold chains, three gold rings, three pairs of earrings, a gold bangle, two smartphones and Rs 20,000 in cash were looted from the house.
The IIC said they will trace the location of the accused by tracking the stolen mobile phones of the victims. The robbery pattern is similar to the one committed in Cuttack at the house of a film producer a couple of days ago, the IIC observed.
Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora told Orissa Post: “Yes, the pattern was similar. The language the robbers spoke and the way they gained entry into the house and fled suggests they were the same gang.”
Arora said three teams have been constituted to nab the
miscreants. Asked why incidents of burglary are on the rise, Arora said: “Police are just a part of the criminal justice system. When we catch the robbers, we must ensure that they stay behind bars.”
