Rairangpur: The implementation of the new Motor Vehicles Amendment Act has suddenly bolstered the practice of providing fake documents to vehicle owners. Three persons were recently arrested for providing false papers by the Rairangpur Model Police Station in Mayurbhanj district.
The recent MV Act has imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000 for two-wheelers and four-wheelers without pollution certificates. Hence there is a huge demand to get pollution clearance documents by the vehicle owners.
Keeping this in mind some miscreants are indulging in the activity of providing false papers at hefty rates. This clandestine business came to the fore when some victims lodged complaints with the police.
Acting on the complaints, police raided the Bikashnagar slum here and arrested Rupak Kumar Mohanta, Durgacharan Mohanta and Sipun Mohanta of Tikhia village under Bahalada police limits. Police also seized a computer and other papers used in preparing fake certificates.
Police said the trio had been running their operations from a house at the Mahuldiha slum.
When contacted, Rairangpur Model Police Station IIC Ranjan Kumar Sethy said the trio has provided fake pollution certificates to some vehicle owners. He said an investigation is on to trace those who have fallen prey to the trio.
