Cuttack: Notorious criminal Buddhia Das suffered a bullet injury in an encounter conducted by the Commissionerate Police at Sector 13 in CDA area of Cuttack late Tuesday night.
According to police officials, Das had been a source of headache for cops. Acting on a tip-off about his presence in CDA, a team of Commissionerate Police carried out an encounter late Tuesday night to nab the most wanted criminal. Das, in a bid to escape arrest, opened fire at the police forcing the latter to retaliate. He sustained injuries on his right leg.
Police personnel Biswajit Mohanty was also wounded in the exchange of fire.
Das was rushed to the SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack.
According to police officials, Das was one of the associates of the most wanted gangster Tito and was involved in various criminal cases.
More than 30 cases have been lodged against Buddhia at various police stations across Odisha, making him one of the most dreaded criminals in the state.
