New Delhi: The Bhubaneswar railway station was placed at 87th position while Puri ranked 401 in the Stations’ Cleanliness Survey report prepared by the Ministry of Railways.
Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal released the survey report at a function organised to mark 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at New Delhi railway station here Wednesday.
Among the zones, the North Western Railway zone retained its top rank in 2019 survey with the average total score of 848.764 followed by South East Central Railway with 801.301 points.
The East Coast Railway slipped by 6 places (to 9th rank) in 2019 survey. It was ranked 3 in 2018.
Similarly, Jaipur railway station topped the tally with 931.75 points followed by Jodhpur and Durgapur with 927.19 and 922.50 points respectively.
In East Coast zone, Visakhapatnam secured the highest rank of 84 with 827.57 points followed by Bhubaneswar railway station with 827.07 points.
In Odisha, Cuttack ranked 191 with 778.50 points followed by Rourkela 194, Jajpur-Keonjhar Road station 266, Sambalpur 293, Bhadrak 317, Balasore 372, Rayagada 374, Puri 401, Khurda Road 415, Titlagarh 439, Berhampur 445, Balugaon 473, Araku 549, Kesinga 585, Jharsuguda 594 and Jagdalpur placed at 602 position.
Speaking on the occasion, Goyal said, “Indian Railways is doing its bit to provide a clean and hygienic environment to the travellers. Cleanliness programme is being conducted at over 6,500 railway stations to showcase the efforts putting in by Indian Railways to keep trains, stations and railway premises clean. Indian Railways has also banned single-use plastic across its premises today onwards.”
