BHUBANESWAR: Visiting a restaurant in the city and being served with cuisines by regular service boys might not be a peculiar experience for many. However, that should change now as the first Robochefs of eastern India will serve your orders at a diner here with the trending question ‘Apana Mane Khusi Ta?’ (Are you all happy?).

The first robot assisted restaurant in the city Robo Chef was inaugurated at DLF Tower near Infocity here Wednesday. The two Robochefs deployed by the diner are named ‘Champa’ and ‘Chameli’. Owner Jeet Basa said, “I saw such robots during my foreign trips. I have also seen them in some Indian cities like Bangalore. However, those robots are made by foreign firms.”

“When I heard that an Indian company also makes such robots, I wanted to start this restaurant straightaway. I wanted to introduce innovation to the hotel industry of the city. We will venture into other cities in the future. I wish to put Odisha in the world map in this regard,” he added.

He stated that the robots were constructed by a Jaipur-based company Club First. The restaurant is probably the first non chain outlet to deploy such robots to serve food. These are equipped with a voice operating system to greet customers.

Bhuvnesh Mishra, managing director, Club First, said, “Bhubaneswar is definitely growing in every positive aspect. Robots will add gloss to the technological advancement of the city. We invented these two amazing robots Sona1.5 and Sona 5 in a time span of more than 3 years. This is India’s first robot which is completely manufactured and designed indigenously.”

The unique features of Sona1.5 Sona 5 are its design, algorithm and a human like spine which makes it the world’s first robot of its kind. “We initially got the idea of making a robot in 2013. Since then, we started our journey of crafting these innovative creations from the scratch. It is also the world’s first robot which does not follow a line to reach its target. Instead, it works on a mapping technology,” he added.

It can work in dark too as it is equipped with night vision. It works by taking order from smart phones via an application. The robot also boasts an optimum level of battery life. It is wireless and is self charging. It gets fully charged in just 30 minutes. “We do not want to limit our innovation to hotels and restaurants. In the future we will work on robots which provide their services in industries, hospitals and offices too. We want to create machines which can adapt to any given environment,” said Bhuvnesh.
