Puri: A police constable of Nimapara police station in Puri district was arrested Wednesday on charge of allegedly blackmailing and repeatedly raping a woman.
The accused constable has been identified as Gangadhar Rout. He has been produced in court Thursday.
According to police official, the constable was working at the Satyabadi police station in Puri district a year ago when he came in contact with a woman who had come to the police station to lodge a complaint. During the investigation the accused befriended her on the pretext of helping her in the matter.
He allegedly blackmailed and raped her forcefully. Following which she lodge a complaint against him at the Satyabadi police station. Gangadhar was arrested but managed to secure bail in July 2019.
After repeated request by the woman to district SP over the incident, the accused was arrested Wednesday again. He has been produced in court Thursday.
