Bargarh: Vigilance sleuths raided the residence of an assistant engineer of the lift irrigation department in the district Saturday morning on charges of acquisition and possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Separate teams carried out simultaneous raids at five places of Baikuntha Rout, including his rented accommodation at Gangadhar Nagar in the Bargarh town, lift irrigation office, and some property in Bhubaneswar and Jajpur.
The raids were conducted acting on the complaints against Baikuntha accumulating huge assets. The vigilance department, Bhubaneswar division, carried out the operation with Bhubaneswar vigilance department inspectors Mnaoranjan Paikray and Sibanarayan Bhadra leading the teams.
The raids were still being carried out while the filing of this report. The exact value of assets unearthed by the vigilance department is yet to be ascertained.
