Bhubaneswar, Sept 10: Sri Aurobindo Integral School entered the pre-quarterfinal round of the Inter-School MCL Cup football tournament after registering a thumping 5-0 win over Venkateswar School at the Unit-VI Ground here Thursday.
Riding on a hat-trick by Tapas Nayak, Aurobindo thrashed Venkateswar easily in a lop-sided match. Tapas found the back of the net in the fifth, 22nd and 49th minutes respectively. Narayan Rout scored a brace in the 46th and 48th minutes. Tapas was adjudged the man of the match. The pre-quarterfinal round will start Friday.
Tennis tourney
Vidhi Jani of Gujarat and Aneesha Mukherjee of West Bengal emerged champions in the girls’ doubles event of the FALCON Super Series badminton tournament at the Kalinga Stadium here Thursday. Vidhi and Aneesha pair beat Telangana duo of Thanushitha Galiveti and Sanjana Srimala in the final 6-3, 6-7(4), 10-4.
Sepak Takraw tourney
Orissa State Sepak Takraw Association (OSSTA) will organise the 19th National Junior Sepak Takraw Championship here December 3-6. “Participants from 30 states across the country will participate in the mega event,” OSSTA stated through a press release Thursday.
Chess tourney
Utkal University will organise an Inter-College chess tournament at the MS Law College in Cuttack September 19-21. A total of 250 participants from 65 colleges of the state will participate in the tournament. The tournament will be played in both the male and female categories.
Football camp
Altogether 84 footballers are undergoing training in the U-19 women’s training camp organised by the Football Association of Orissa (FAO) at the Satyabrata Ground in Cuttack. The budding footballers are training under the guidance of Chitrasen Patra and Gitanjali Khuntia.
